Do take note we can get to Johor Bahru through 2 different check points (or customs & immigration clearance), namely Woodlands Checkpoint and Tuas Checkpoint. Getting To Singapore Woodlands Checkpoint (By Bus)
If you travel by bus to Johor Bahru via Woodlands, you need to take note that Woodlands Train Checkpoint is different from Woodlands Checkpoint. All passengers traveling by bus will need to clear immigration at Woodlands Checkpoint. Woodlands Train Checkpoint is only for passengers traveling by train, they will clear immigration separately from those who travel by bus. Not all buses will bring you to Woodlands Checkpoint. Some will alight you at Woodlands Train Checkpoint. Clearing Immigration at Singapore Checkpoint (By Bus)
Clearing immigration at both Singapore Woodlands Checkpoint and Tuas Checkpoint is the same. You need to bring down all your belongings from the bus, and head towards the immigration counter. Get ready your passport for clearance. You can use either the automated counter (which use fingerprint scanning), or the normal manual counter. Always smile to the immigration officers, a friendly gesture for the overworked officers for their hard work.
Once you are cleared at the immigration counter, you may proceed to the bus bay to board the waiting buses.
Tips: You may want to go to the toilet first before boarding the bus.
This is in case there is heavy traffic before you reach JB immigration.
Getting To Johor Bahru Checkpoint By Bus
After clearing Singapore immigration, you should be heading towards the bus bay to board the waiting buses. You can take any buses there, as all buses will go to Johor Bahru Immigration. However, staying in the same bus as you come from will help you to save some cost. Nevertheless, most people will choose convenience over small savings like this. Once you hop onto the bus (hopefully you find a seat), just wait for the bus to arrive at Johor Bahru Immigration.
If you clear immigration at Woodlands Checkpoint, you will get to Johor Bahru immigration at JB Sentral.
If you clear immigration at Tuas Checkpoint, you will get to Johor Bahru immigration at JB Second Link.
Clearing Immigration at Johor Bahru Checkpoint (By Bus)
Whether you are entering Johor Bahru by Woodlands Checkpoint or Tuas Checkpoint, clearing immigration will be the same when you reach one of the two Johor Bahru immigration centres.
The bus will arrive at Johor Bahru Immigration, where you will need to alight with all your belongings. Move ahead and join the queue at one of the immigration counters. Get ready your passport and remember to give a friendly smile to the immigration officers who have worked long hours to serve the public.
After the officer has cleared you at the immigration counter, please remember to check for the immigration stamp on your passport, with correct date stamping. This is a very important item to check, which many people may take for granted. Do remember that if there is no proper stamping on the passport, you will have trouble clearing the Johor Bahru immigration when you come back later.
Once you are cleared at the immigration counter, heads toward the baggage scanning machine. Put your big luggage into the scanning machine, and put all small items, such as mobile phone, key chains, wallets into a small plastic container and put it through the scanning machine. Then personally you need to step over to be checked by the officers. You may sometimes be required to remove any metal objects to verification. So try to put all small metal objects like belts, watch into the small plastic container through the scanning machine. Getting To Your JB Destinations
After clearing Johor Bahru immigration, this is where the excitement starts.
If you clear immigration at Singapore Woodlands Checkpoint, you will end up at Johor Bahru immigration at JB Sentral. From here, City Square Shopping Mall and Komtar JBCC Shopping Mall are just opposite the immigration complex at JB Sentral, where you can walk across through an overhead bridge. If you clear immigration at Singapore Tuas Checkpoint, you will end up at Johor Bahru immigration at JB Second Link. You need to get back to the bus CW3 or CW6 where you come from, which will take you to Bukit Indah bus terminal. This bus terminal is located in front of Giant Shopping Mall, and Aeon Bukit Indah Shopping Mall is just opposite. You can also get on to other buses that will take you to various fun destinations. Train From Singapore to JB
Many people do not realize there is a train service from Woodlands to Johor Bahru (and vice versa). Taking a train ensure you have consistent travel time, which takes only 5 minutes to cross the causeway bridge.
Clearing of immigration is also easier, as both the Singapore and Johor Bahru immigration counters are located in the same building. This means after you clear the Singapore immigration counter, you walk over to another section (within the same building), and clear the Johor Bahru immigration counter (at Singapore side). This is similar when you take a train back from Johor Bahru to Singapore.
The only draw back for taking a train is the availability of train tickets. Do take note that train is available only in Woodlands, and not in Tuas.
There are many options to get to Singapore Woodlands Train Checkpoint. You can take a taxi, call a private hire car (such as Grab or Uber), or take a public bus. The following buses can get you to the Woodlands Train Checkpoint.

Getting Your Train Tickets
After you reach Singapore Woodlands Train Checkpoint, the train immigration counter is located on level 2. Do note there is another immigration counter called Woodlands Checkpoint, this is for normal immigration by bus or car. Before going to level 2, go and get your train tickets at the ticket counter located at level 1.
Train tickets usually sell out very fast, especially on weekends and public holiday. So be sure to go early to avoid disappointment. Train schedule starts from 8:00 am to 11:15 pm. Train ticket cost S$5 per person. If you purchase train tickets for your return trip from Johor Bahru train station, it only cost RM5. However, you may want to purchase your tickets for both ways at Singapore train ticket counter, as tickets are unlikely to be available on your trip back to Singapore.
You can book your train tickets online using this web site. After you make payment and confirm your train tickets, please print out the ticket receipt. On the day of your departure, you will still need to go to the train ticket counter to exchange the receipt for the real train tickets. The train ticket counter is located on the first floor at Woodlands Train Checkpoint.
There is actually a phone number for enquiries on train schedule and tickets availability. You can call this a day before to know whether tickets are all sold out, so you can plan to travel by alternative means. The phone is 63666832 and 67650076.
Clearing Immigration at Singapore Woodlands Train Checkpoint
After you get your train tickets, proceed to level 2 to get to the Woodlands Train Checkpoint. At the train immigration counter, present both your passport and train ticket to gain entry. Once you clear Singapore immigration, you can walk to the Johor Bahru immigration counter, which is located within the same building.

Since the Johor Bahru immigration counter is located in Singapore, it is very convenient for travelers. Proceed to clear the immigration by presenting your passport and train tickets.

Getting To Johor Bahru (JB Sentral) By Train
When you board the train to Johor Bahru, you may get a seat if you are early in the queue. Some times the train tickets are over booked, and you may have to stand without a seat. That is really fine, as the journey takes only 5 minutes. As the train move through the causeway bridge, you can look out the train window to see the road condition on the bridge. During a peak period, the traffic will be heavy, and you will be glad that the money on the train ticket is well spent.
Getting To Your JB Destinations
When your train reach Johor Bahru Sentral Station, you can alight and walk straight out to Johor Bahru town. Remember you have already cleared Johor Bahru immigration at Singapore side !!! Yes, you are ready to rock.

Taxi From Singapore to JB
Taking Taxi from Singapore to Johor Bahru is straight forward, but there are some limitations. Cross border taxi can only alight you at Johor Bahru Larkin Sentral (Larkin Taxi & Bus Terminal). This taxi service will be useful if your destination is near to this Larkin Sentral. Taxi can pick you from anywhere in Singapore when you call, or you can board the taxi at Ban San Street Taxi Kiosk, which is located 5 minutes walk from Bugis MRT station.

Private Hire Car From Singapore to JB
Regarding private hire car, most people will zoom straight to Grab & Uber. Well, they are very popular, but they are not allow to go to Johor Bahru. That is why you will not be able to find in their apps any Johor Bahru locations. Having said that, not too worry, there are many enterprising companies that are ready to provide this cross border services just for you.
Generally they provide 7 to 10 seater MPV, and charge from S$90 to $150 per car trip, depending on your destinations. For further away distance, the charges will be higher (such as Malacca). They will pick and alight you at your desire location, on per trip basis. Do note some will charge extra for waiting time, so you may want to clarify this during booking. Also check whether they will absorb the customs toll charges or not.
During immigration clearance, you do not need to alight at the car immigration counter, you just need to stay in the car. Unless the private hire vehicle is a passenger van, then the customs clearance will be same as travel buses, and you will need to get out of the van and clear customs just like passengers that travel by bus.

Self Drive From Singapore to JB (Johor Bahru)

Decide whether you are driving to Johor Bahru by Woodlands Checkpoint or Tuas Checkpoint. If you destination is nearer to Woodlands Checkpoint, such as City Square, KSL, or Aeon Tebrau, then it make sense to go by Woodlands Checkpoint. If you are going to Aeon Bukit Indah, Hello Kitty or Legoland, then it is more convenient to go by Tuas Checkpoint. Of course it also depends on where you are coming from. Let your wisdom decide the final route.

Singapore Woodlands Checkpoint

At the Singapore immigration counter, hand over your passport to the immigration officer for checking. Roll down your window, both front and back seat. Pay your Singapore toll charge using your cash card.
Woodlands Checkpoint Toll Charge:
If you are using Singapore Woodlands Checkpoint, the toll cost S$1.00 to leave Singapore (It is S$3.80 before 01 Feb 2018). On returning to Singapore, it is free for the toll charge (It is S$2.70 before 01 Feb 2018).
Tuas Checkpoint Toll Charge:
If you are using Tuas Checkpoint, the toll charge is S$2.50 (both ways) during peak period, and S$1.30 (both ways) during off peak period (This is effective from 01 April 2018). See the table for detail toll charges below. The old toll charge before 01 April 2018 is S$3.20 to leave Singapore, and cost S$3.20 when returning.
The immigration officer will call for your name, so you may acknowledge by waving. Once you are cleared, collect your passport. No stamping on the passport is needed when you are leaving Singapore to Johor Bahru. Move forward and head for the bridge to cross over to Johor Bahru.
Cross The Bridge To Johor Bahru
Coming From Woodlands Checkpoint
If you are using Woodlands Checkpoint, the Johor Bahru customs is located at the end of the causeway bridge. Drive on the 2 left most lanes, as the right most third lane is reserved for buses and lorries.
When you are near to the Johor immigration, stay in the 2 left most lanes, as the right most lane is for buses and lorries to turn right to the Heavy Vehicle immigration counter.
Coming From Tuas Checkpoint
If you are using Tuas Checkpoint, you need to drive over the bridge first. On the bridge, you can enjoy the nice scenery on both sides of the bridge. You actually may feel more relax as you are coming out of the fast pace in Singapore. After the bridge, you still need to drive about 4km before reaching the Johor Bahru Customs (Second Link).
Clearing Johor Bahru Checkpoint
The process of clearing Johor Bahru Checkpoint is the same whether you are coming from Woodlands or Tuas Checkpoint. At the immigration counter, hand over your passport for stamping. While waiting for the stamping, you should pay the Road Charges of RM20, using your Touch n Go card. You can purchase this card at the counter if you do not have. You should also pay the toll charge. The toll payment reader machine is located differently for Woodlands Checkpoint or Tuas Checkpoint, see the details later at below sections.
Collect your passport and check that it is stamped with the correct date.
Paying Toll Charge If Coming From Woodlands Checkpoint
If you are coming from Woodlands Checkpoint, the toll charge payment reader is at the immigration counter, at the same location where you pay the road charge. Your toll charge is RM9.70 for entering Johor, and on return the toll charge is RM6.80.
Paying Toll Charge If Coming From Tuas Checkpoint
If you are coming from Tuas Checkpoint, the toll charge payment reader is located at a different location from the immigration counter. That means after paying your road charge of RM20 at the immigration counter, and after collecting your passport, you need to drive a short distance to get to the toll station, and pay the toll charge there. Your toll charge is RM7.50 for entering Johor, and on return the toll charge is RM7.50.
